Rolex Datejust Ref. 1601

The Lenox Hill Datejust is a simple example of a Rolex Datejust bespoke project. This watch began life as a lightly-worn Rolex Datejust Ref. 1601 in stainless steel. After we located this watch, courtesy of a private collector in California, a mechanical overhaul was completed, and the dial and calendar disc were sent to our painter in Bavaria.

The palette choice was a 1960s-inspired matte blue intended to closely resemble factory Rolexes of this era. In fact, the dial appears original upon first glance; only upon closer inspection do the initials of the new owner present themselves on the lower portion of the dial. The calendar disc was refinished in a “roulette” scheme with dates alternating between black and red.

To complete this Datejust, we added a custom fabricated exhibition caseback with sapphire crystal. The original, 18-karat white gold bezel was also replaced with a period-correct, smooth stainless steel bezel taken from a Rolex Datejust Ref. The original jubilee bracelet was retained.
